Matthew 6:19–21, 24; Psalm 24:1; 1 Chronicles 29:10-14; Deuteronomy 8:17-18;
Matthew 6:19-21, 24
1) Jesus proposes a deep question in this text: Will you love and trust money
or will you love and trust God?
- Your allocation disciples your affection.
2) Many people live life based on an ownership myth.
Fact is, I don’t really own anything. I am a steward (manager) over what God has given me.
(Psalm 24:1; 1 Chronicles 29:10-14; Deuteronomy 8:17-18)
3) Money always makes divine promises (security, significance, control) and demands worship.
o What triggers your financial fear? (security)
o What purchases are really status symbols? (significance)
o Where do you refuse accountability? (control)
4) If we want to be rich toward God, we must change our attitude about money to more reflect
an Eternal Kingdom mindset.
- Change from “I don’t need a plan” TO “If I don’t follow God’s plan, I don’t have a prayer.”
- Change from “What I do with my money is my business” TO “What I do with God’s money
is God’s business.”
- Change from “There’s nothing I can do” TO “There’s nothing God can't do.” (Ephesians 3:20-21)
