2 Chronicles 24: 1-2, 13-15
1) Joash did what was right in the eyes of the Lord… as long as Jehoiada was in his life. (vs. 2)
2) Great starts do not equal great finishes. (vs. 1-14)
3) Joash crowned flatterers as counselors, and the faithless led him away from the Lord.
(vs. 17-19)- Who has your ear will steer your life. Counsel is never nuetral. (1 Corinthians 15:33)
- Whose approval changes your obedience?
4) When you kill correction, you kill your furture. (vs. 20-22, Proverbs 9:8)
5) The Christian life is personally owned and communally guarded. Lone-ranger faith drifts;
crowd-pleasing faith caves.
- Practices that help hold the line against compromise:
- Abide daily — Jesus priority every day. (John 15:5)
- Accountability weekly — find truth-tellers and give them permission to pry. (James 5:19-20)
- Obedience promptly — act while conviction is fresh. (Psalm 119:60, James 4:17)
- Endurance over hype — keep showing up and growing up. (2 Timothy 4:7)
