Accountability in Community
Matthew 12:1-14
1) People in the Bible and even today struggle with resistance to Christ’s authority.
2) Many people today have a Lordship problem with Jesus. We like Him as Savior but not as Lord because that means he is our Master and King, and we obey the King’s commands.
Galatians 2:20, 1 Corinthians 6:19-20a
John 5:16-18, 7:13, 7:19c, 7:25-26, 7:30, 7:32, 7:44, 8:20b, 8:58-59
3) Jesus directly asserts His divine identity and it fundamentally challenged the existing religious beliefs.
4) Encountering truth always demands a response.
Some will try to ignore and reject the truth. (just pretend like truth is not true)
Some will choose hostility toward the truth. (to fight it, squelch it, to skew and bend it)
But Biblical truth, divine truth is unchanging truth.
Some will choose acceptance of the truth.
(a convert)
Some will surrender their ways to the way truth leads. (a disciple)
Call of a disciple: Matthew 4:19
A disciple is someone who is following Jesus, is being transformed by Jesus, and is on mission with Jesus.
