Pray Like It Matters [Part 1] Powerful Prayers

There are two big prayer mistakes that I think every person can make:

      • Our prayers are way too small.

      • Our prayers are way too general.

Generic prayers don’t move God to specific actions.

Prayer is real communication with God.

Psalm 5:1-3, Ephesians 3:14-21

In our text, Paul prayed for Christians to be strengthened with power so that:

1) Christ may dwell in your hearts. (vs.17)

2) You become rooted and grounded in God's awesome, unconditional love (ἀγάπη). (vs.17)

3) You have the strength to grasp (conceptually understand) His love. (vs.18)

      • His love reaches farther than you have wandered and deeper than you have fallen. Comprehend that!

4) You personally know the love of Christ (that surpasses knowledge). (vs.19)

5) You are filled with the fullness of God. (vs.19)

      • Paul’s prayer is not simply, “God, make their lives easier.” It is, “God, make them stronger, root them deeper, draw them closer, and fill them completely so they can be Your Holy Church.” (Ephesians 3:20-21)

      • I think that as Christians, we don’t tap into God’s power for spiritual strength enough.

Application:

      • Pray big, specific prayers.

      • Generic prayers don’t move God to specific actions.
