Descending Into Greatness

Philippians 2: 1-11

Our would is obsessed with status, success, and self-promotion. But God's Kingdom flips our expectations. In Philippians 2, Paul reveals the required to truly follow Jesus. 

1) The Call: Humility leads the way to unity in the body of Christ. (vs. 1-2)

      • If we are to be unified, we each have to overcome the corrosive tendency toward self-centeredness rather than being mission-minded.

2) The command: Reject selfish ambition and vain conceit... consider others above yourself. (vs. 3-4)

      • Self- centeredness fractures unity. Humility restores it. 

3) The Example: Jesus practiced and modeled a radical humility never seen before. (vs. 5-8)

      • Relational humility begins with a mindset change. 

Romans 12:2a, Mark 10:35-37, 41-45

4) The Result: Christ is exalted in and through His humility lived out in His people! (vs. 9-11) 

      • Christ-like humility prepares us for eternity.
      • Jesus's humility was not just a good example for us - it's the very essence of the gospel.
