Gratitude (Part 1) The Drift of an Ungrateful Heart

Romans 1:18-25
What Is Gratitude? A simple definition: Gratitude is the appreciation of blessings and benefits received.
Gratitude is not happiness.
Gratitude is not conditional.
Gratitude is not guilt about your blessings.
Gratitude is not just mind over matter.
Gratitude is a mentality that recognizes a gift or blessing and remembers the Giver.
Romans 1:18-25
What do we lose if we live with no gratitude?
1) Without gratitude, we lose our sense of wonder and awe.
- Gratitude reawakens wonder; ingratitude suffocates it.
2) Without gratitude, we lose our sense of value. Gratitude elevates people; ingratitude erases them.
3) Without gratitude, we lose our sense of rest. Ingratitude drives us into restless idolatry.
4) Without gratitude, we lose sensitivity of heart. Ingratitude is not a reaction; it’s a habit. And habits harden hearts.
- Gratitude keeps the heart tender; ingratitude turns in to stone, one small complaint at a time.
