Psalms 13
Lamenting is more than a song; it is a Spiritual Discipline to be practiced.
Psalm 13 (NLT)
Lamenting is not complaining — it’s worship.
“Lamenting is not only a way to voice our hurts; it is also a way to stay connected with God when everything in us wants to turn away.” —Walter Brueggemann
A lament is a prayer in pain that leads to trust.
“The Psalms teach us to pray our pain, not just to endure it.” —N.T. Wright
The Three Movements of Psalm 13:
1. A Cry of Despair (vs. 1-2)
- David is being honest and open about his struggle.
2. A Plea for Help (vs. 3-4)
- David is bringing his grief to someone who can do something with it.
3. A Turn to Hope (vs. 5-6)
- David is choosing to put his trust and hope in the love of God.
Lamenting is a form of faith.
