Romans 6:1-14
A lot of people want to live with Jesus while keeping sin as a roommate.
1) Buried with Christ means the old life must die. (vs.1-4)
2) Because we’re buried with Christ, sin is no longer our master, but tolerated sin still pushes to rule us. (vs.5-10)
3) Stop negotiating and compromising with what Jesus died to bury. (vs.11-13)
4) Real repentance requires radical change. (vs.13-14)
1) Buried with Christ means the old life must die. (vs.1-4)
- How is repentance evidenced? (2 Kings 22:19; 2 Corinthians 7:10)
- Jesus did not save you so you could manage sin better, but so you could walk in newness of life. Grace is not a blessing to keep sinning; it is power to crucify it.
2) Because we’re buried with Christ, sin is no longer our master, but tolerated sin still pushes to rule us. (vs.5-10)
- What you keep excusing will keep growing. (John 8:34)
- The sin you tolerate will become the sin that dominates.
3) Stop negotiating and compromising with what Jesus died to bury. (vs.11-13)
- When you keep making room for sin, do not act shocked when it starts ruining your house.
4) Real repentance requires radical change. (vs.13-14)
- Specific boundaries — cut off access
- Accountability — bring it into the light and allow others to help (Hebrews 3:12-13)
- Prayer — ask God for help, strength, and to change your desires
