Numbers 22:20-35; 23:8, 19-20; 24:13, 17-19
Numbers 22:20-35
1) God always sees through false spirituality and crooked motives. (2 Peter 2:15)
- God is not impressed by spiritual appearance when the heart is compromised.
Numbers 23:8, 19-20
2) No human can reverse what God has decided to bless. (Job 42:2)
Numbers 23:19; 24:13
3) God is not manipulated by pressure, money, rituals, or religious performances.
- Balak has mistaken thoughts about God, like many people do:
- God can work for me.
- I can make a deal with God and ultimately get my way and my will.
- My thoughts and my ways are the right ways, and God just needs to get in line with that.
- God is my personal genie, waiting to grant my requests and wishes.
- God is like Santa Claus or a spoiling grandparent, giving me whatever possession or thing I want.
- Man-centered Doctrine & Theology vs. God-centered Doctrine & Theology
- God responds to faith and obedience, not manipulation and performance.
- God is Lord, not a lever. (Psalm 115:3)
- God is not a machine to work; He is the Lord to trust.
Numbers 24:17-19
4) God’s people can rest because His purpose is bigger than the threat against them. (Colossians 2:15)
The right response to God’s sovereignty is not fear, but trust and obedience. (Psalm 46:1-3, 10)
