We meet three people in the book of 3 John:

1)Gaius: A Faithful and Hospitable Servant (vs.1-8)

      • Gaius excelled in the gift of hospitality even though these men were strangers to him. (Rom. 12:13; Heb. 13:2)

      • True hospitality involves opening your heart and home to those in need.Why?For the sake of the name. (vs.7)

2)Diotrephes: A Divisive Man (vs.9-11; Phil. 2:4; Rom. 16:17)

      • The Diotrephes spirit is still alive within Christians today. How do you spot them?
          • Only think about themselves
          • Have a critical spirit toward those they disagree with
          • Critical and often rebellious toward church leadership
          • Argue over insignificant details of church life
          • Cling to positions of authority at all cost
          • See new people as a threat to their power

3)Demetrius: A Christian to Pattern Your Life After (vs.12-15)

      • There are basically two types of Christians:
          • Spiritual or Carnal
          • Contributors or Detractors
          • Workers or Whiners
          • Positive or Negative
          • Helpers or Hinderers
          • God-Centered or Self Centered
          • Demetrius or Diotrephes

On a scale of 1 to 10: (10=Demetrius and 1=Diotrephes)
Where do you think you are today? Where would others say you are? What does God say you are?
