1) Pride causes us to trust in things that will ultimately fail us.
- Edom was proud about:
- Their location
- Their wealth
- Their alliances
- Their wisdom
- Their armies
- God wants you to be secure—not in your accomplishments, your bank account, your brains, or your experience—but in Him.
2) Pride can keep us from being there for others when they need us.
- Pride that hides deep in our heart eventually shows up.
- How you think about, talk about, and treat other people is very important to your Father in Heaven.
3) Pride leads to destruction.
- Edom’s judgment is an example of what will happen to any nation who proudly opposes God and oppresses His people.
- James 4:6 (NLT)
- The God of the universe actively resists pride because it robs Him of the glory that belongs to Him alone.
4) Humility leads to restoration and hope. (vs. 17; 21)
- Philippians 2:6-8 (NIV)
- When we humble ourselves like Jesus, there will be restoration for us and hope for our future.
