There are three main themes found in 2 John:
1) The Elder (2 John 1-4)
- Truth is a person, Truth has a name, and His name is Jesus. (John 14:6; John 6:35)
- Truth changes us. Truth transforms us. Truth produces obedience.
2) Love (2 John 5-6)
- Biblical love is more than a feeling; it’s a commitment. (1 Peter 4:8; Romans 5:8; John 13:35; 14:15; 1 John 4:11)
- How to walk in love:
- Show hospitality to one another. (1 Peter 4:9)
- Be at peace with one another. (Mark 9:50)
- Bear with one another. (Ephesians 4:2-3)
- John 15:5
3) Deception (2 John 7-11)
- Deception rarely announces itself. It disguises itself. It sounds close to the truth, looks close to the truth, and feels close to the truth. (Psalm 119:11)
- God’s Word protects us from deception.
TAKEAWAY:
As Christians, our life is built on the truth, expressed through love, and we must study God’s Word daily to protect ourselves from deception. (2 John 12-13)
