Prayer
What can we learn from the Bible about the role of prayer in the life of a Christ-follower? (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, Colossians 4:2)
1) Prayer is commanded. Jesus expected His followers to pray, and God’s Word makes it clear. (Matthew 6:5-7, 6:9, Luke 11:9, Luke 18:1)
2) The purpose of prayer is intimacy with God.
Prayer is not ritual, it’s relational. (Luke 5:15-16)
Prayer is about knowing God, not just asking from Him.
3) Jesus gave us an excellent model for our prayer times. (Matthew 6:9-13)
Adoration: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name.”
Submission: “Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”
Petition: “Give us today our daily bread.”
Confession: “Forgive us our debts.”
Deliverance: “Lead us not into temptation.”
4) Prayer becomes a daily rhythm by priority. (1 Thessalonians 5:17)
5) Prayer is both personal and corporate. (Acts 2:42)
Psalm 145:18
