Solitude, Silence, & Listening
Deuteronomy 27:9, Psalm 4:4, Habakkuk 2:20
1) God can speak to us in the dramatic and in the solitude and silence.
2) Jesus often withdrew from people and activities to spend time alone with the Father. (Mark 1:35, Matthew 14:23, Luke 6:12, 5:15-16)
3) There are many benefits to making solitude and silence a part of your rhythm in life.
You can hear God’s voice and guidance more clearly.
Time alone with God deepens our relationship and reliance on Him. (Psalm 46:10)
Solitude restores the soul and offers strength for the journey ahead. (Mark 6:31)
Silence provides space for self-examination and aligning our hearts with God’s will. (Lamentations 3:28-29)
4) There are also many challenges to solitude and silence and hearing from
God.
There’s a cultural resistance to stillness. Our noisy, fast-paced world makes solitude and silence feel unnatural.
We feel unproductive when we wait in solitude and silence.
There’s a true fear of being alone with God. What might God do or say?
5) Have you ever considered maybe you can’t hear God because of the constant noise in your life?
